Tips to Buy Wooden Bed Online

When it comes to prioritizing furniture, a bed is right at the top. Your bed is not just a place to sleep, it sets the tone for your bedroom décor. Thus, it is critical that you buy the right bed. Here are a few tips to buy wooden bed online.

Invest in solid wood not engineered wood

Most beds available online can be categorized as solid wood beds and engineered wood beds. Solid wood furniture refers to furniture made from beams of wood that have been treated and dried. On the other hand, engineered wood refers to wood shavings that have been compressed and mixed with a joiner to make sheets of engineered wood. Engineered wood is not as strong as solid wood. It is also not as durable as solid wood.

Know your wood

Not all solid wood beds are the same. Some types of wood are stronger and more long lasting than others. Teak and rosewood are consideredthe best types of wood for beds. However, they are also the most expensive. If you’re looking for a bed at a lower price point, you may want to consider beds made out of mangowood, pine wood or sal.

Buy treated wood

Before being made into furniture, wood must undergo several stages of treatment. It must be dried, treated for termites, etc. If you want your furniture to last for a long time, it is crucial that you ensure that the wood used to make the furniture has been properly treated. Wood that has not been treated may buckle and warp with time. If this were to happen to your bed, there’s a chance the bed may be unable to take the weight of the person sleeping on it and may break.

Pick the right size

When you buy a wooden bed online you will come across terms like King and Queen sized beds. This does not mean you have to be royalty to sleep on the bed, rather, it refers to the size of the bed. Most beds have a standard length of 6 ½ feet. The width varies. A single bed is the narrowest while a California King is considered the widest. A king sized bed is 76” wide while a queen sized bed is 60-66” wide. In terms of single beds, a small single is 30-33” wide while a twin bed is 38” wide. When determining the size of the bed needed for your room, you need to consider the size of the room as well as the physique of the person who will be sleeping on the bed. Always leave at least 2 feet of distance between the sides of your bed and the walls.

What’s the height?

Along with the width and length of the bed, the height at which the top of your mattress stands from the floor is also important. Mattress thicknesses can vary from 4” to 8”. Keep this in mind when you look at beds. Furniture websites typically mention the height of the mattress base from the ground. Add the thickness of your mattress to this height to get the final mattress height. Ideally, your mattress height should be 17-19” from the floor. If you like a high bed, you could even go as high as 24”.

Choosing the right style

Once you know the size of the bed, you can move on choosing a style. Four poster beds and canopy beds are very popular in the classical section but they are not suited to small rooms. If you have a small room and want a poster bed, it may be better to get a 2 poster bed. In terms of headboards, you can choose between a wooden headboard and upholstered headboards. The former are better suited to Indian homes as dust can be an issue with upholstered headboards.

Do you need storage?

Many beds have inbuilt storage options. The storage section below the mattress may be accessed through drawers or lift-up hydraulic systems. The latter is preferable and more durable. Some beds also have storage built into the headboard. You should note that the beds with storage tend to look bulkier than beds without storage.

Lastly, you should always buy wooden beds online from reputable brands that are known to maintain high quality standards. Look into the bed’s warranty and what type of after-sales services you can expect. You don’t buy a bed everyday so make this one special.
